I truly love being a photographer – being able to capture such incredible memories for people is so rewarding and fulfilling; not to mention I’ve met so many incredible people I’ve met and friends I’ve made throughout my career. However, if there is one thing that brings me down as a photographer it’s not being able to control the weather. Being a photographer in Virginia I know the weather here is never really predictable and, though I always have a backup plan, my heart was aching for poor Lexi and Trey as we kept trying to reschedule their engagement session (we had non-stop rain for the ENTIRE week that we were not even able to pick a backup date!).
When the day finally arrived for Lexi and Trey’s engagement session, the morning was drenched in a relentless downpour. However, as fate would have it, just one hour before their scheduled session, the sun began to break through and I couldn’t help but break into my signature happy dance. When I was driving to Waterperry Farm, the clouds seemed to roll in once more, threatening another bout of rain. But, as if in response to Lexi and Trey’s arrival, the rain held off, and we decided to make the most of the dramatic cloudy backdrop.
And make the most of it we did! Lexi and Terry were so sweet and fun to work with and they brought their adorable fur baby Tucker who was full of energy. In my experience a more tired pup makes for better photos so we got some energy out with the help of Trey’s mom and stepdad who took him to the garden to run around for a bit – when he returned he was ready for his close up. Despite the challenges the weather brought, we had such an amazing session. It was so wonderful getting to know Lexi and Trey and I cannot wait for their wedding coming up this October at one of my favorite venues Lovingston Winery!
